Black Mamas March
Join us #InDefenseofBlackLives on June 27th
What Is The #BlackMamasMarch?

The Black Mamas March is a space for Black mamas and parents to take action in the name of Black Joy, Black love and in defense of Black lives. We will honor all of the Black children and Mamas that were forced to mourn too soon, and have a dance party as part of our protest. We will protect our families and provide PPE, hand sanitizer, and ground markers to help folks observe physical distancing. Strollers, wagons, and baby carriers are strongly encouraged!

Who can participate?

This is an inclusive space for all Black mamas, our families, and our allies who are centering and supporting Black lives in the pursuit of joy and justice. Those who gave birth and those who took on a mothering role. All family structures are welcome and loved.

Can white allies and accomplices participate?

White allies and accomplices are welcome to support Black Mamas March by volunteering during the march, donating money, and donating supplies. White folks who are in solidarity with the demands of the Movement for Black Lives and Black Mamas March are free to join the march in a way that does not center themselves, does not take up the space of a Black mama or their children, and will protect the Black families who are present.

Are you affiliated with the Movement for Black Lives?

Yes! We are in solidarity with the demands of the Movement for Black Lives. We are marching in defense of ourselves, our children, and our futures. This historic gathering will allow us to come together and show our children that their freedom is directly connected to their joy.

Where will it be?

We will gather at the Navy Memorial Plaza (701 Pennsylvania Avenue NW) on Pennsylvania Avenue between 7th and 9th Streets NW near the National Mall. There will be a short program of music, education, and a babies’ march, and then we will march on to Madison Drive and 14th Street NW near the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

How do I get there?

Navy Memorial Plaza is midway between the U.S. Capitol and the White House and directly across from the National Archives. It is located at 701 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, and is directly above the Archives-Navy Memorial Metro stop on the Green and Yellow lines. There are multiple parking garages and street parking nearby.
